Toledo Mud Hens News Release

TOLEDO, Ohio - In a game that remained close all throughout, the Toledo Mud Hens dropped the series finale to the Louisville Bats at Fifth Third Field by a score of 9-6.

During just his third game wearing a Mud Hens uniform, Jacob Robson continued to prove he belongs. On the other end of things, Ronny Rodriguez kept his hot streak alive.

Toledo starter A.J. Ladwig fought early game, getting out of some tough spots. Eventually, the Bats were able to get to him. Mason Williams had a ball peek just inside the foul pole in the third inning for a home run. Then, one inning later, Louisville was able to get to him for three more runs.

Robson got things going for the Toledo attack with a homerun in the bottom of the first inning. With that ball finding its way over the fence, the newest Mud Hen has now homered in two straight games. In the second inning, the Mud Hens struck again with both Kade Scivicque and Edwin Espinal scoring.

By the end of Ladwig's day, the Mud Hens were down one. A leadoff triple from Rodriguez put Toledo in the drivers seat to tie the game at four. They did just that on a wild pitch from Louisville starter Justin Nicolino. Robson then hit a double and scored to give the Mud Hens a one run advantage.

That lasted all of a half inning. Zac Reininger threw two innings out of the Hen Pen. During his second inning of work, Williams hit a ground rule double that scored Blake Trahan. The game was, once again, tied. The Mud Hens took the lead in the bottom of the seventh, but at a cost. With the bases loaded, Bats pitcher Jimmy Herget threw a full count fastball up and in that hit Edwin Espinal on the shoulder. The benches cleared, and both Espinal and manager Doug Mientkiewicz were ejected from the game.

The following inning, Victor Alcantara loaded the bases after an error from Jason Krizan, playing first. Zac Houston got the call in a tough spot. After getting a strikeout for out number two, Dilson Herrera got ahold of one for a grand slam. That final blow would be the decider, as Kevin Quackenbush was able to shut the Mud Hens down in the ninth.
