Louisville Bats News Release
TOLEDO, OHIO - Dilson Herrera's seventh home run of the season was a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning that propelled the Louisville Bats (32-46) to a 9-6 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens (46-35) on Sunday evening at Fifth Third Field.
Louisville loaded the bases on back-to-back walks by Stuart Turner and Blake Trahan, and a fielding error by the Mud Hens, before Herrera connected with a 1-0 pitch that went sailing over the wall in left field to give the Bats the lead for good in a back-and-forth game. Herrera went 3-for-5 in the game while picking up four RBI on the grand slam.
Following the Herrera home run, Louisville's pair of International League All-Star reliever's Tanner Rainey (3-1, 1.57) and Kevin Quackenbush (0-0, 0.36) shut the door on any chance Toledo had of coming back. Rainey tossed and perfect eighth and Quackenbush tossed a perfect ninth to pick up his 11th save of the 2018 season.
The Bats' offense recorded 13 hits in the game including five doubles off the bats of Josh VanMeter, Phillip Ervin, Mason Williams, D.J. Peterson, and Trahan. Williams and Ervin each finished 2-for-5 from the plate with two RBI a piece. Trahan also had a multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with a walk.
Lefty Justin Nicolino (3-5, 5.14) got the start for Louisville and worked five innings and struck out four batters while giving up eight hits and five runs on 104 pitches, 70 strikes. Bats' reliever Wandy Peralta (1-0, 3.86) earned his first win of the season after working out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh.
Toledo starter A.J. Ladwig (5-4, 6.59) received the no decision after giving up eight hits and four runs, while reliever Victor Alcantara (4-1, 2.74) was hung with the loss.
Louisville begins a two-game homestand on Monday evening as the Indianapolis Indians invade Louisville Slugger Field with the game's first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Louisville right-handed pitcher Jose Lopez (3-7, 5.27) is scheduled to start and will face off against the Indians righty Alex McRae (3-7, 4.83).
