Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the series finale to the Buffalo Bisons, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. Chris Dominguez homered for the Chiefs in the win. Austin Voth was strong as well, allowing just a run in seven innings of work, but was out-dueled by Sean Reid-Foley.
Buffalo (38-37) broke through in the top of the fifth inning. Jason Leblebijian led off with a walk. Michael De La Cruz followed with a double down the right-field line, scoring Leblebijian from first base for a 1-0 lead.
The Bisons added two runs in the top of the eighth. Richard Unreña worked a walk to begin the inning. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. then doubled home Gurriel to give Buffalo a 2-0 edge. Gurriel moved to third base on a Rowdy Tellez ground out to second base. Two batters later, Dwight Smith Jr. singled to right field to score Gurriel and make it a 3-0 ballgame.
Syracuse (34-47) scored its lone run in the bottom of the eighth. Dominguez led off the frame by crushing a pitch over the right-field wall for a solo home run that trimmed the Bisons lead to two, 3-1.
Buffalo added a run in the ninth. With two outs Andrew Guillotte hit an infield single. Ureña then reached on an error that put runners at first and second. Gurriel followed with a single to right field, scoring Guillotte for a 4-1 Bisons advantage.
Chiefs starting pitcher Austin Voth made another strong start, allowing only one run in seven innings on the mound. The 26-year-old struck out four batters and walked two.
