Today's Game
This evening, the Bisons and Louisville Bats will conclude their season series. The Herd is looking to salvage one game of the series and collect their first victory on the six-day, nine-game road trip through the IL's Western Division. Tomorrow the Bisons open in Indianapolis where they will play five games in three days against the Indians. Buffalo will return from the road with a five-game series against Lehigh Valley that start on July 30, through August 2.
Last Game: BUF 2, LOU 6
LHP Thomas Pannone worked five innings for the Bisons, but suffered his second defeat with the team. The Bats once again used the long ball to help down the Herd. INF D.J. Peterson launched a pair of home runs off of Pannone to carry the Bats' offense. Peterson drove in four of the six Louisville runs. Bisons' OF Anthony Alford hit his fifth HR of the season in the loss as well. Alford was 3-4 at the plate in the loss.
Louisville (0-3)
The Bisons and Bats are meeting for the only time this season. Snow and inclement weather in April postponed the series in Buffalo between the two teams that was scheduled for April 16-18. The three-game series was part of a five-day stretch of postponements due to weather. Two of the three games were cancelled due to scheduling restrictions.
Today's Starter: RHP Nick Tepesch
RHP Nick Tepesch is making his first appearance since coming off of the Disabled List on Tuesday. It will be his seventh start with the Herd and ninth appearance overall since being promoted from New Hampshire (AA) on June 2. The righty was 1-2 with the Fisher Cats.
Anthony Alford
OF Anthony Alford collected his seventh three-hit game of the season last night. Alford has gone 4-8 (.500) in the series against Louisville so far to increase his batting average by eight points heading into tonight's contest. Alford also launched his fifth home run of the season in the loss on Wednesday. All five of his HRs have come since June 17.
Tim Lopes
INF Tim Lopes went 1-4 on Wednesday to keep his batting average at a team best .280 entering Thursday night's play. Lopes has hit safely in five of his last six games, including two multi-hit performances in that stretch (7-21). His 73 hits is also tops on the Bisons currently.
Bisons' Bits
The Herd is now 8-4 in doubleheader games this season. Last night was the first time an opponent swept a DH from Buffalo this year. However, Buffalo was 6-0 to start with three straight sweeps; two at Rochester (May 25 and 27), and one at Columbus (June 10)...The Herd has been swept once before at Louisville Slugger Field. The Bats were 4-0 in 2003.
Transactions
On Wednesday, the Bisons activated INF Jason Leblebijian from the Disabled List. Leblebijian was sidelined 11 days with a hand injury suffered on July 13 at Lehigh Valley.
Blue Jays Update
Toronto (46-55) fell short against the Minnesota Twins 12-6 in extras on Wednesday getting swept in the three game series. RHP Jake Petricka suffered the loss, after the Twins put up six runs in the top half of the eleventh inning. The Jays will begin a nine-day road trip starting Friday in Chicago against the White Sox. Toronto will send RHP Marcus Stroman to the mound against RHP Reynaldo Lopez (8:10 p.m.). After their series with the White Sox, the Jays will head out west to square off against the Oakland Athletics for a three game set.
