Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers clinched a series victory today against the Pawtucket Red Sox, taking the finale of their three-game set, 6-4.

After rallying in the eighth to win last night, the Clippers got things done in the tenth inning today to come away with the series.

Adam Wilk also played a big part in the win, logging six innings of two-run ball in the start for Columbus. He allowed seven hits, walked four and struck out two.

The Paw Sox were first on the board in the third inning with a Sam Travis RBI single off Wilk, but it was all Clippers after that.

They knotted things up in the top of the fourth when Eric Haase scored new Clipper Johnny Field with a single off Matt Kent.

Columbus took the lead, courtesy of Haase, in the sixth. With two on, he smacked an RBI double to left, making it 2-1. Eric Stamets followed that with a two-run single to break things open at 4-1.

Pawtucket came back with an RBI double off the bat of Kyle Wren, but Wilk escaped the jam with a 4-2 lead.

They inched closer in the bottom of the eighth against Clippers' reliever George Kontos. With a runner on third, Travis lifted a sacrifice fly to right, bring the Paw Sox within one run at 4-3.

Ben Taylor entered for the Clippers in the bottom of the ninth and was rudely welcomed by Aneury Tavares, who stroked a game-tying solo homer.

The Clippers finished things off in the tenth, though, scoring two runs without recording a hit. With a man on second per Minor League Baseball's new extra innings rule, Drew Maggi bunted and the throw to third went awry, allowing Adam Rosales to score for a 5-4 lead.

After that, Haase scored another with a sacrifice fly to give the Clippers a two-run advantage at 6-4.

Taylor closed the door on Pawtucket in the bottom of the inning for the series win.

Chris Tremie's squad will be on the road again tomorrow, traveling to Pennsylvania to take on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at 7:05 p.m.
