Charlotte Knights News Release

(MOOSIC, PA) -- After two straight days of inclement weather, the Charlotte Knights and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders were able to complete their rain-shortened, two-game series on Thursday from PNC Field in Moosic, PA. The Knights dropped Tuesday's suspended game by a score of 5-4, but powered their way past the RailRiders in Thursday's seven-inning contest by a score of 8-2.

RHP Michael Kopech (4-7, 4.26) started the originally scheduled matchup on Thursday and earned the win after he allowed just two runs over five solid innings. Kopech, the top pitching prospect in the Chicago White Sox system, struck-out four batters to add to his International League-leading mark, which now totals 135 on the season. Relievers Aaron Bummer (1.0 IP) and Gregory Infante (1.0 IP) shut the door on the final game with a combined two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Outfielder Eloy Jiménez, the top prospect in the White Sox organization, continued his torrid pace with the Knights. The 21-year-old slugger launched his sixth home run of the season with the Knights in the first inning of Thursday's matchup. He finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored, one double, one home run, and two RBIs. Outfielder Ryan LaMarre went 3-for-4 at the plate and finished a home run shy of hitting-for-the-cycle. Additionally, second baseman Jake Elmore had three hits and outfielder Trayce Thompson connected on his first home run of the season with the Knights.

In Tuesday's suspended contest, which resumed at 12:04 p.m. on Thursday with the Knights ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the RailRiders came from behind to score four runs in the inning en route to a 5-4 victory. Charlotte RHP Carson Fulmer (5-6, 5.68) was charged with the loss.

RHP Spencer Adams started the game on Tuesday, but rain forced the game to be suspended in the bottom of the third inning. On Wednesday, RHP Tyler Danish was on the hill as the game resumed, but rain once again forced the game to be suspended. The inclement weather also forced Wednesday's originally scheduled game to be cancelled. The two teams finally completed the rain-shortened, two-game series on Thursday afternoon.

The Knights will now head to Pawtucket, RI to open a three-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox (Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox) on Friday night. Pre-game radio coverage of Friday's 7:05 p.m. game is set for 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
