Big Third Period Dooms Toledo in a 5-2 Loss

(Kalamazoo, MI) Evan Rankin put Toledo up 2-1 early in the third period but the Wings took the game 5-2 Saturday night in Kalamazoo. Toledo has an overall record of 27-13-1-3 and 13-8-1-2 on the road.

Kalamazoo struck for the first goal of the game as Ludwig Blomstrand scored a shorthanded goal at 13:45 of the first period. Toledo tied the game at 17:58 of the second period when Austin Wuthrich (10th) beat Kalamazoo goaltender Joel Martin with a wrist shot.

Early in the third period Evan Rankin (7th) deflected a shot from the blue line that gave the Walleye a 2-1 lead just 1:41 in. The Walleye could not hold on to that advantage as the Wings exploded for four unanswered goals to finish the final period.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 19 of the 23 shots he faced and saw his record go to 7-8-1-1 on the season. Toledo also dropped Friday night's game in Kalamazoo 5-1. Toledo outshot the Wings 42-24 for the game.
