Comeback Stopped in 5-3 Loss at Allen

Allen, TX - Wichita (10-29-4-4) traveled south to Texas this evening to close out the weekend against Allen (28-16-2-1). A late Thunder rally was halted by the Americans in a 5-3 loss on Saturday night at the Allen Event Center.

Kale Kerbashian had three points against his former team while Martin Nemcik had a goal and an assist to lead the way for the Thunder.

Gary Steffes got things started with his 15th of the season at 9:39 of the first period. Shots after the first frame were 7-6 in favor of the Americans.

In the second, the two teams combined for five goals. Jonathan Parker notched his 10th of the season at 3:27. Kerbashian cut the lead to one with his seventh of the year at 6:36. The Americans re-gained their two-goal advantage less than a minute later with a goal from Greger Hanson. Mike Gunn increased it to 4-1 with his second of the year at 11:32. Nemcik closed the second-period barrage at 12:43, sending the game into the second intermission at 4-2.

Ian Lowe got the Thunder within one in the third period, recording his 10th of the year from Nemcik and Kerbashian. Grant Rollheiser was pulled with two minutes to go, but Chris Crane iced it with an empty-netter at 18:11 and a 5-3 Allen victory.

Kerbashian finished with a goal and two assists. The two teams combined for just six minutes in penalties. Rollheiser took the loss, stopping of 22 of 26 shots. Rumpel claimed the win, stopping 23 of 26 shots he faced.

Wichita was 0-for-2 on the power play. Allen went 0-for-1 on the man advantage.

The Thunder returns home next week for the first-ever meeting against the South Carolina Stingrays starting on Friday night.
