BOISE, IDAHO - The Idaho Steelheads got two late second period goals, the game-winner from newly acquired Radislav Illo, and held off the Alaska Aces 5-2 Saturday at the CenturyLink Arena in Boise.

The Steelheads scored two open-net goals late in the third period to close out the scoring.

Defenseman Davis Vandane gave Alaska a 1-0 lead at the 3:24 mark of the first period with his first career goal. Vandane snaked his way to the goal from the top of the right circle and backhanded a splendid shot top shelf, stick-side of Steelheads goaltender Jack Campbell. Assists on the play to Tony Deluca and Felix Poulin.

Idaho tied it up at 7:18 of the first. Illo, who was just added to the Steelheads roster, redirected a Shawn Boutin shot from the right point past Aces netminder Troy Redmann. Former Ace Corbin Baldwin also assisted on the goal.

In the second period, the Aces took a quick 2-1 lead when Daniel Johnston, a defenseman like Vandane, also backhanded a shot past Campbell after a sweet pass from Mitch Jones. The goal was Johnston's 3rd of the season and snuck in between the post and Campbell's stick side. Deluca got a helper along with Jones.

The tide turned later in the second. At 11:51, Jake Rutt's shot from the left point negotiated traffic and ended up in the back of the Aces net. Then, at 18:16, Radislav Illo struck again, sending a shot toward the Aces net that Redmann thought he had lined up. The puck tipped off the end of his glove and into the net, and Idaho had a 3-2 lead. Jake Rutt and Torin Snydeman assisted.

In the third period, two empty-net goals, one by Snydeman and the other by Andre-Bouvet Morrisette sealed the deal, and the Steelheads skated off with two wins in the three-game series.

Campbell finished with 38 saves and Redmann 30 as Alaska outshot Idaho 40-35 for the game.

The Aces return to the Sullivan Arena to face the defending ECHL champion Allen Americans at the Sullivan Arena February 10, 12 and 13. It will be Aces Hall of Fame weekend.
