Norfolk Admirals News Release

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Norfolk Admirals fell, 5-1, against the Adirondack Thunder Saturday night at Glens Falls Civic Center for a weekend split.

The Thunder lit the lamp first when Dana Fraser's drop-back pass in the Admirals zone set up Jeff Silengo. He notched his tenth goal of the season from the right circle to give Adirondack a 1-0 advantage at 5:57.

During a 5-on-3 power play, Thunder defenseman Patch Alber fed the puck to Ryan Constant in the high slot. Constant's laser hit the back of Norfolk's net at 12:42 of the opening frame.

Braden Christoffer, who made his Admiral debut tonight, scored at 17:51 to make it 2-1 at the end of the first period. Just after Norfolk killed their penalty, Dean Ouellet drove out of the Admirals zone and Ouellet weaved his way along the right wall. He knocked the puck towards Adirondack's goaltender, Kent Simpson, from behind the net, and Christoffer was at the top of the crease to tip it in.

After Norfolk turned the puck over at the left sideboards, Ryan Lomberg found rookie Michael Kirkpatrick's stick. Just 1:07 into the second period, Kirkpatrick's slap shot went in top shelf from the hash marks to widen the Thunder's lead, 3-1.

With 2:50 remaining in the second frame, Silengo dished it to wide-open Mitchell Heard in the neutral zone. Heard hit the twine to score the fourth goal for Adirondack during a breakaway at 17:10, making it 4-1.

After the Admirals pulled Riopel to add an extra attacker on the ice, Heard's empty-netter and second goal of the night secured a 5-1 victory for the Thunder with 2:49 left in regulation.

Nic Riopel blocked 42 of 47 Adirondack shots, and Kent Simpson saved 33 of 34 Norfolk attempts. The Admirals went scoreless on three man-advantages, while Adirondack went 1-for-6.

The Admirals will face the Reading Royals on Friday, February 12, at Norfolk Scope at 7:30 p.m.
