KALAMAZOO, MI- Joel Martin shined again for the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday night as he backstopped the Kalamazoo Wings with 39 saves en route to a 5-2 victory over the Toledo Walleye at Wings Event Center.

Kalamazoo potted the first goal of the contest, courtesy of a shorthanded marker from Ludwig Blomstrand. The Walleye mishandled a pass at the blue line of their offensive zone, allowing Blomstrand to skate through the neutral zone and around the Walleye defense. Using a head-fake, Blomstrand found room over the glove of Jake Paterson, for his 14th of the season.

The Walleye carried the play for the majority of the second period, and were rewarded late in the frame to tie the game at 1-1. Austin Wuthrich took a rebound chance from the left circle and lifted it over Martin, for his 10th of the season.

Breaking the tie early in the third, Toledo took advantage of a four-on-four situation just 1:41 into the third. Ralfs Freibergs ripped a shot from the blue line, where it found the tape of Evan Rankin's stick and hopped over Martin's pad.

Just under three minutes later, the Wings answered back. Working on their second power play chance, Sacha Guimond took a Blomstrand feed at the top of the point and unloaded a slap shot that beat Paterson, who was screened on the play.

Regaining their one-goal advantage, Kalamazoo pushed the puck during a scrum in front of the Walleye net. Evan McEneny's initial shot was deflected away by the pad of Paterson, but the follow up shot from Tyler Shattock caromed off the body of Justin Taylor and squeaked over the goal line to make it 3-2.

Earning their largest lead of the night, the Wings pushed the pace throughout the final frame. David Gilbert came in on a breakaway and slid the puck through the legs of Paterson, but the puck hit the post and bounced out of the crease, where Tanner Sorenson slid it past Paterson, who was caught out of position.

Just over one minute later, the Wings capped off the scoring with an empty netter courtesy of Taylor, who netted his second of the night.
