Gameday: Adirondack vs. Norfolk
February 6, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight's matchup completes the back-to-back set between Adirondack and Norfolk, the seventh overall meeting this season. The two teams have split the season series to date, as Norfolk knotted things up at three with last evening's 3-2 victory at the Civic Center. After this weekend, the East Division foes will meet just three more times this season, including another back-to-back next month in Norfolk.
A SILEN-GO GETTER: Thunder forward Jeff Silengo scored a power-play goal for the Thunder in last night's defeat, his ninth tally of the season. The goal, which came off of assists from Ryan Culkin and Louick Marcotte, marked Silengo's third PPG of the season. Dating back to January 22 against Manchester, Silengo has now collected a point in each of the Thunder's last four home games. The University of New Hampshire graduate has six points (3-3-6) and a +3 rating over that span.
LOMB CHOPS: The Thunder got a welcomed return to their forward corps yesterday as winger Ryan Lomberg returned to the team from the Stockton Heat of the AHL. Lomberg wasted little time acclimating as he scored the game's first goal with just 78 seconds off the clock. The tally for Lomberg was his seventh of the season and gives him 13 points (7-6-13) in 14 games played. In 15 AHL contests with the Heat, Lomberg amassed three assists, including two in back-to-back games in early January against the Bakersfield Condors (1/3) and San Jose Barracuda (1/6).
POWERLESS PLAYS: Adirondack has rendered opponents powerless with the man advantage in recent memory, having killed off 51 of their last 53 shorthanded opportunities, including a perfect 4-of-4 in last night's game. The Thunder have climbed the ECHL rankings during their current run, moving from 19th in the league to 11th, where they currently sit at 85.0%. Despite a slightly lower percentage, the Thunder rank in the league's Top 10 in Away Penalty Killing, slotting eighth at 84.7%.
JAKE THE SNAKE: Adirondack acquired goaltender Jacob Deserres this week from the Colorado Eagles. Deserres has appeared in 10 ECHL games this season and has collected two wins, a 2.87 goals against average, a .876 save percentage and his first career shutout, a 19-save effort against Rapid City on October 28. Deserres is making his second career appearance in Glens Falls, after he joined the AHL's Adirondack Flames for a game last season on April 7 against Toronto.
TWINS: Through 42 games this season, the Thunder have put together equal records both home and on the road. With last night's defeat, the Thunder fell to 13-6-1-1 on home ice, matching their road record, which was set with a 3-2 overtime loss to Manchester on January 24. Adirondack is also one of just three ECHL teams, along with Missouri and Florida, to have a winning percentage of .667 or higher both at home and on the road.
