Big comeback gives Schieve first Nailers win

JOHNSTOWN, PA- The Wheeling Nailers entered Sunday afternoon's game in unfamiliar territory, second place. For most of the season Wheeling has lead the North but the pack has caught up and Reading leads the Nailers by two points.With Reading hosting Trenton Sunday afternoon the Nailers need to keep pace with a win in Johnstown.

In the first period Johnstown took an early lead 2-0 lead. After the Nailers killed off a 5 on 3 power play Johnstown broke down the ice and beat Schieve for a 1-0 lead. Shortly after the first goal and on a delayed penalty call Johnstown struck again to make it 2-0. With 3:03 left in the period Jordan Cameron got the Nailers on the board and beat former Nailers goaltender Mike Betz to make it 2-1.

In the second period Tim Verbeek's power play goal tied the game at 2. The goal we Verbeek's fifth of the season.

Just :34 into the third period the Nailers took their first lead of the game on a power play goal by Brendon Hodge.

Tim Verbeek's second of the game at 11:34 of the game gave the Nailers a 4-2 lead. Johnstown was not dead yet. With just 1:03 left in the game former Nailers Dimitri Tarabrin earned his 17th goal of the season and pulled the Chiefs to within 1.

The Nailers defense cranked it up and held off the Chiefs the rest of the way to get Kevin Schieve his first win in a Nailers uniform 4-3.

With the win the Nailers magic number is now just 16 points. The Nailers also have pulled even closer to winning the inaugural US Army Challenge Cup between the Chiefs and Nailers. The Nailers are now 5-1-1 against the Chiefs this year.
