ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Patrick Wellar took a pass from Olivier Filion and buried a one-timer 1:14 into overtime, giving Alaska a 3-2 victory over Long Beach before 5,086 on a KeyBank Sunday at Sullivan Arena.

Still stinging after their 4-1 loss last night which ended a nine-game winning streak at home, the Aces raced out to a 2-0 lead in the game's first five and a half minutes. Ryan Gaucher scored a power play goal at 2:10, his 14th of the season, and Mike Scott ripped a one-timer from Joe Talbot past Ice Dogs goalie Jaroslav Halak at 5:28 for his 25th goal of the season, tying him for the team lead with Chris Minard (currently on recall to Albany in the AHL).

After giving up goals on the first two shots he faced, Halak settled down, and his team out-shot Alaska 16-5 in the first period, cutting the deficit in half when Michael Lambert, who scored three times last night, finished off a two-on-one with 4:52 left in the opening frame. Alaska (41-8-3) out-shot Long Beach 13-11 in a scoreless second period, but the Ice Dogs finally got the equalizer on a Steeve Villeneuve drive from the point just 1:35 into the final stanza.

Aces netminder Matt Underhill finished with 32 saves and Alaska held Long Beach scoreless in eight tries on the power play, setting the stage for Wellar's heroics in OT. The two-on-one that ended the game was created by Ryan Ramsay, who fought through traffic to flick a loose puck up the right-hand boards to Filion.

The Aces return to action next Friday and Saturday night at last-place Victoria, with both games scheduled for a 6:05 p.m. AST start. Alaska is 4-1-1 against the Salmon Kings this season. All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com, where all home games and selected road contests also are available on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks.
