Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Jaroslav Halak stopped 37 of 38 shots and Michael Lambert recorded a hat trick in the third period to lift Long Beach to a 4-1 verdict over Alaska before 5,558 at Sullivan Arena.
For the first time since an October 29 overtime loss to Bakersfield, the Aces found themselves embroiled in a scoreless game after two periods, despite owning a slight 23-20 edge in shots on goal. The contest turned when Alaska (40-8-3) was whistled for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, negating what would have been an Aces power play. Sean McAslan flicked home a rebound of a Christian Larrivee drive from the blue line in the ensuing four-on-four, and Long Beach took its first lead in five games this year against Alaska at 6:07 of the final period.
Four minutes later, after another ill-advised penalty, this time for delay of game for pushing the net off its moorings, Lambert unleashed a slap shot from the right point that found the top corner against a screened Matt Underhill. Trailing 2-0, the Aces failed to convert a five-on-three power play, and with Underhill having been pulled in favor of the extra attacker, gave up the first of two empty-netters scored by Lambert with 1:51 left in regulation. Vladimir Novak broke up Halak's shutout bid just six seconds later with his 11th goal of the season, but after Underhill was removed again, Lambert sealed only Alaska's third loss at home and third defeat at the hands of a Pacific Division rival with his third goal at 18:50.
The Aces, who remain six points ahead of second-place Las Vegas in the West Division by virtue of Utah's 5-0 win over the Wranglers Saturday, and the Ice Dogs wrap up their regular season series tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. as KeyBank presents "Skate with the Aces," with a post-game skate with the team as well as the opportunity for autographs and pictures. All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com, where all home games and selected road contests also are available on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks.
