Benefit Game Postponed

November 7, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cincinnati RailRaiders News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks regret to announce the benefit hockey game between the Cincinnati Metro Firefighters and Police Officers versus the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association Saturday, November 9 at 4:05 p.m. at the Cincinnati Gardens has been postponed following the death of alumni team member Ross "Lefty" Wilson, who passed away November 5 of congestive heart failure in Marco Island, Florida. He was 83-years old.

Wilson, who served as a coach for the Red Wings alumni association, spent 32 years as Detroit's trainer from 1950 through 1982. He appeared in three NHL games as a backup goaltender when the starter was injured.

Wilson is survived by his son Ross, who has two children. He also leaves two great grandchildren. Lefty's wife, Lillian, passed away in 1995.

The Firefighters and Police Officers will still play a benefit game at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday for two-year old Natalie Cross. Natalie is the daughter of Elliott Cross, a captain for the Florence, Kentucky EMS. She was born a typical toddler, full of life, on February 17, 2000. In September of 2001, she suffered a severe brain injury and is now severely handicapped. The funds raised will be used for Natalie's Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which has shown tremendous recovery potential for children with these types of injuries. However, this type of treatment is not covered by insurance and $5 from each advance ticket sold will go towards Natalie's therapy costs.

Tickets for the game, which also includes the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks versus Cleveland Barons American Hockey League game at 7:35 p.m., are $12 and can be purchased by calling the Mighty Ducks at (513) 351-3999, ext. 235.
