
Griffins Tie in 500th Contest

HOUSTON, TX - The Grand Rapids Griffins (4-3-3-0) traveled to Houston to face the Aeros (11-1-1) on Thursday night for the Griffins' 500th regular season contest in franchise history. They also brought a perfect 3-0-0 record away from Van Andel Arena. The Griffins came away with a 2-2 tie, marking the first time Houston did not win on the Compaq Center ice this season. The tie makes the Griffins' all-time regular season record 262-175-63-0.
A scoreless first period, saw the Griffins outshoot the Aeros by a 4-2 margin.
Houston scored first when Jean-Guy Trudel's shot deflected off Cory Larose's skate into the Griffins' net at 13:54 of the second period. Curtis Murphy also assisted on the goal.
Stacy Roest answered for the Griffins when he took a pass from Rob Collins and buried it into the back of the net for a power play goal 1:34 into the third period.
Tim Skarperud would break the tie with an off-balance wrist shot from the boards that found a hole in Aeros' netminder, Dieter Kochan's pads for a 2-1 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the third. Mark Mowers got his team-leading tenth assist on the play.
Houston pulled Kochan for an extra attacker and it paid off when Hnat Domenichelli banged in a loose puck making the score 2-2 with 1:20 remaining in regulation.
The teams would trade chances during the overtime period, but were unable to find the back of the net and the game finished in a 2-2 tie.
Griffins goaltender Marc Lamothe stopped 24 of 26 shots, pushing his record to 3-0-3 in his last six outings and 3-1-3 overall. Kochan made 26 saves on 28 shots, making his record 5-1-1.

The Griffins remain on the road as they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on the Grizzlies on Saturday night at 9:00 p.m.
