Hershey Bears News Release

HERSHEY - The 2006 Calder Cup Champion HERSHEY BEARS announced Tuesday that goaltender Nolan Schaefer has been acquired from the Worcester Sharks. The announcement was made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

Schaefer, 27, was a fifth round selection of the San Jose Sharks in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft after playing four years at Providence College. He made five consecutive starts for San Jose last season from October 28 to November 5, recording a shutout at Anaheim November 4. Schaefer became the first San Jose Sharks goaltender in team history to win five games in a row to begin his NHL career. The Yellow Grass, SK native is expected to join HERSHEY in time for Wednesday's game in Philadelphia against the Phantoms.

"With a great track record at the AHL level, and success last season with San Jose, his record speaks for itself", said BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst. "With the injuries that our goaltenders have sustained, this was an opportunity to stabilize the position moving forward."

The BEARS will travel to Philadelphia Wednesday in advance of Friday's East Division showdown with the Norfolk Admirals in Hampton Roads. Face-off Wednesday at the Wachovia Spectrum is at 7:05 p.m., with Friday's game at Norfolk Scope slated to begin at 7:15 p.m. The BEARS will return home Saturday to face the Admirals to conclude the home-and-home series at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 508-BEAR. Saturday's game will be the final home game for HERSHEY in January.
