January 23, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Worcester Sharks News Release
SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has assigned goaltender Nolan Schaefer to the Hershey Bears (AHL).
Schaefer has played in 16 games for Worcester this season, posting a 5-8-3 record with a 2.80 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage while splitting time with goaltenders Thomas Greiss and Dimitri Patzold.
"This move allows Nolan the opportunity to play consistently at the American Hockey League level while remaining Sharks property," said Wilson.
Schaefer posted a 5-1-0 record with the Sharks in 2005-06 with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage, posting five consecutive victories to begin his career with the Sharks, becoming the first netminder in franchise history to do so. He also led the Sharks to their first ever shootout victory on October 29, 2005 against the Calgary Flames
The 26-year-old finished the 2005-06 season in Cleveland (AHL) with a 12-21-2 record and was recalled to San Jose on Apr. 18 for the playoffs.
During the 2004-05 season with Cleveland, Schaefer led the team in appearances (43) and saves, with 1,076.
The six-foot-two, 195-pound native of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan was selected by San Jose in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
