
Sharks provide warm welcome on the ice to Special Olympics Massachusetts, 2007 Winter Games Athletes

WORCESTER - The Worcester Sharks are pleased to announce a new community partnership with Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA). The Sharks will serve as the official host of the 2007 Winter Games - Opening Ceremonies.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Special Olympics Massachusetts Winter Games will be held in the Greater Worcester region. The new partnership signifies the long-term potential of ensuring the Games return to the area. The weekend-long Games begin March 2nd and will conclude on March 4th. The Games will bring over 5,000 athletes, coaches, volunteers, families and supporters to the area, and generate over $2 million for the Greater Worcester area economy.
"The Worcester Sharks Organization is committed to being a long-standing partner within the Worcester community," said Sharks President and CEO Michael T. Lehr "Since the Sharks moved to Worcester, we have vowed to do that, this is just another example. We are thrilled to be able to partner with such a reputable organization as the Special Olympics and we are excited to see the Athletes and their families flood the DCU Center for Opening Ceremonies and then cheer us on against the Providence Bruins on March 2nd It's a win-win situation for all."

The 2007 Winter Games will take place at several locations including: Wachusett Mountain, Assumption and Holy Cross Colleges, Auburn AMF Lanes, Buffone Arena, Burncoat High School, Clark University, Forest Grove Middle School and Notre Dame Academy. All of the competition events are fee and open to the public.
