Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release

The Battle Creek Bombers return to .500 on the season after winning the second of a two game series with the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders at home on Friday night.

Kelby Weyler kicked off the Bombers offense with a single on the first pitch in the bottom of the first. He, along with Erik Owen and John Malcom would score in that frame after a couple wild pitches from Dock Spider starter Jared Jones.

The game was absent of runs from that point until the top of the fourth when Cam McMillan hit a solo home run to right center. The Dock Spiders would follow their one run fourth inning with two more runs in the fifth, evening the score at 3-3.

Battle Creek regained their lead in the bottom of the fifth frame as Weyler scored off a Malcom double. Malcom would also score in that inning at the hands of a Hunter Ruhstorfer RBI single.

Fond Du Lac came right back with two more runs of their own in the top of the sixth, tying the game again- this time at 5-5. After a scoreless sixth for Battle Creek the Dock Spiders sent Thomas Jager to the mound to relieve Jared Jones. Jager promptly walked Weyler and gave up a single to Owen setting up Malcom who singled to send the go ahead run home. Owen and Malcom would also score in the seventh to extend the Bombers lead to 8-5. Malcom would finish the night four for four with three runs and three RBIs.

Pablo Arevalo entered the game in the ninth with one out already captured. He forced a fly out and a strikeout to solidify the Bombers first Friday win of the season.

The Bombers are back in action tomorrow night as they take on the Traverse City Pit Spitters in their first road trip of the season.
