Louisville Bats News Release
NORFOLK, Va - The Louisville Bats won their second straight road game against the Norfolk Tides on Monday night by a score of 4-1. Right-hander Tim Adleman (2-0, 4.24) threw seven innings of scoreless baseball and the offense was hot right out of the gate.
The Bats' offense came out ready to hit, with shortstop Jose Peraza leading off the first with a double followed by a Bryson Smith single. With runners on the corners and nobody out, designated hitter and current International League-hitting leader Jermaine Curtis hit a sacrifice fly to score Peraza and give the Bats an early 1-0 lead.
The Bats would tack on another run in the top of the second inning. Right fielder Kyle Waldrop blasted his third home run of the season, a solo shot to right field off Nick Additon that made it 2-0 Bats after two innings.
While the Bats' offense was providing the early run support, right-handed starter Tim Adleman was dealing in his third career start at the Triple-A level. Adleman tossed seven innings for Louisville, surrendering three hits and one walk, while striking out seven. Adleman's seven strikeouts are the most for a Louisville pitcher so far this season.
Norfolk starting pitcher Nick Additon (1-2, 2.74) had a strong outing but couldn't match Adleman's performance. Additon went six innings, giving up two earned runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out four.
Additon exited the game after the sixth, and the Bats did damage against Norfolk's bullpen. Jose Peraza reached on a throwing error by left-handed reliever Cesar Cabral, and eventually scored on a Jermaine Curtis RBI single. Later in the inning Steve Selsky gave the Bats a 4-0 lead when he knocked in Curtis with an RBI single, which was his third hit of the game.
Louisville reliever Tim Melville pitched a scoreless eighth and Dayan Diaz gave up one run in the ninth, giving the Bats a 4-1 victory.
The Bats totaled 11 hits for the second straight game after posting just one in Saturday's game. Multi-hit games were recorded by four Bats players: Steve Selsky (3-for-4), Jermaine Curtis (2-for-3), Bryson Smith (2-for-5), and Seth Mejias-Brean (2-for-5), which was his first of the season.
Tomorrow night, the Bats will go for the sweep against the Tides at 6:35 PM. Left-hander Cody Reed (0-0, 3.86) will go for Louisville (8-8) and righty Terry Doyle (0-1, 5.09) will get the start for Norfolk (6-12).
