Pawtucket, RI - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Pawtucket Red Sox, 5-0, Monday night at McCoy Stadium. The PawSox out-hit the Chiefs 14 to four in the first of six straight games between the two clubs.

Pawtucket (11-8) started the scoring with two runs in the third inning. Marco Hernandez and Blake Swihart singled with one out off Paolo Espino. A batter later, Sam Travis doubled home Hernandez to give Pawtucket a 1-0 lead. After a groundout, Justin Maxwell singled to score Swihart to push the lead to 2-0.

Syracuse (9-9) put two runners on base with one out in both the third and fifth inning. But William Cuevas got out of both jams in an impressive start for the PawSox. Cuevas surrendered just three hits in seven scoreless innings, tallying four strikeouts.

The PawSox added to the scoring in the bottom of the fifth. Travis doubled for the second time to lead off the inning. Travis moved to third on a groundout, and scored on an error on Scott Sizemore at third on a ball hit by Maxwell.

Jantzen Witte extended the lead to four in the seventh. After Rusney Castillo walked against Abel De Los Santos and moved to second on a groundout, Witte doubled home Castillo for a 4-0 Pawtucket lead.

The Red Sox found one more run in the eighth. Back-to-back doubles by Hernandez and Swihart brought in the fifth run of the game.

The Chiefs and PawSox return to McCoy Stadium for a Tuesday matinee to close the Pawtucket portion of the series. A.J. Cole is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite Brian Johnson for Pawtucket. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
