
International League Names Players of the Week

The International League announced today that Indianapolis first baseman Josh Bell and Gwinnett pitcher Aaron Blair have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from April 18-Â24.  Each is the first from his respective club to claim an IL weekly honor this season.Â
JOSH BELL, Indianapolis Indians IL BATTER OF THE WEEK
Over the past seven days Indians slugger Josh Bell hit .400 and the International League with six extra-Âbase hits and 23 total bases. He also tied for the League-Âlead with two home runs and 9 RBI in a week highlighted by a cycle on Friday in Louisville.  Bell led the charge in a 13-Â1 romp of the Bats, singling home a run in the 1st, doubling and later crushing a grand slam in an eight-Ârun 3rd inning, and punctuating the effort with a 9th-Âinning triple.  Bell, rated by MLB.com as one of the game's top 50 prospects, leads the IL so far this season with 15 RBI.  He's 2nd in the circuit with a .589 slugging percentage.    23-Âyear-Âold Josh Bell is in his fifth season as a professional player. In 2014 he was Pittsburgh's Minor League Player of the Year. Last season he made his Triple-ÂA debut and was a key contributor to Indianapolis' co-Âdivision title run.  He has yet to make his Major League debut.  Bell is a native of Irving, Texas.
AARON BLAIR, Gwinnett Braves IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Braves right-Âhander Aaron Blair was untouchable Tuesday night against Durham as he earned his third win in as many outings this season.  Blair tossed 7.0 frames of scoreless, no-Âhit baseball and struck out ten to lead Gwinnett to a 7-Â2 victory over the Bulls.  He was perfect through his first 5.2 innings before issuing a walk to Carlos Corporan.  Blair's ten punchouts included six consecutively between the 2nd and 4th innings, all swinging.  Blair, who is widely rated as one of Atlanta's top pitching prospects, was pulled after having thrown 87 pitches.  Sunday, he made his Major League debut for Atlanta, allowing three runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work in a loss against the Mets.  23-Âyear-Âold Aaron Blair is in his fourth season as a professional pitcher after being selected 36th overall in the 2013 draft by Arizona.  He first reached Triple-ÂA last season with Reno, going 7-Â2 with a 3.16 ERA, then in December he was traded to Atlanta as part of the deal for Shelby Miller.  Blair is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada.
