Indianapolis Indians News Release
DURHAM, N.C. - Cole Figueroa fell just a home run shy of the cycle in his first start with the Indianapolis Indians, but he helped power the Tribe to victory over the Durham Bulls on Monday night, 12-1. Chad Kuhl tossed five innings and struck out six for the win.
Figueroa appeared as a pinch hitter in his Indianapolis (9-7) debut on Sunday evening, but he broke out against his former Durham (10-9) club on Monday. Figueroa doubled in the third inning, knocked a run in with a single in the fourth, and tripled home two more runs in the sixth inning.
Kuhl (2-0) was sharp and cruised to his second win of the season. He struck out six batters without issuing a walk. Kuhl has allowed only two free passes in his three starts with the Tribe. Kelvin Marte, John Kuchno, and Guido Knudson completed the night for the Tribe pitching staff.
Indianapolis built an early lead thanks to a pair of home runs. With two men aboard in the third, Danny Ortiz hit a towering home run. Max Moroff, who collected three hits on the night, hit a two-run homer to right field in the fourth frame. The blasts marked the second home runs of the year for both.
Austin Pruitt (2-1) entered with an earned run average below two, but the Indians tagged him with eight runs, five of which were earned, and the defeat.
With the triumph, the Indians are now 3-2 on their eight-game road trip, and they'll go for the club's third consecutive series victory on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch in Durham is set for 1:05 p.m., and top Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Tyler Glasnow is the probable starter for the Tribe.
