Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - RHP Miguel Gonzalez, who has posted a 1-0 record with a 2.45 ERA in two starts with the Knights this season, had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox today. Taking his roster spot with the Charlotte Knights will be RHP Erik Johnson, who was optioned to the club after Sunday's White Sox game. Charlotte's active roster is set at 25 players.

Gonzalez, 31, was signed by the Chicago White Sox and assigned to the Charlotte Knights on April 7. He is the third player this season to go from Chicago to Charlotte. Johnson was recalled to the club on April 19, while catcher Kevan Smith was recalled on April 24.

A native of Guadalajara, MX, Gonzalez won his last start for the Knights back on April 17 against the Durham Bulls at BB&T Ballpark. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits over six innings for the win. Gonzalez spent the past four seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. Last year, the 6'1" righty posted a 9-12 record with a 4.91 ERA in 26 games (all starts) with the O's. Overall in the majors, Gonzalez has compiled a 39-33 record with a 3.82 ERA over parts of four seasons (101 games). He was originally signed as an amateur free agent by the Angels in 2004.

Johnson, 26, did not pitch for the White Sox since he was recalled by the club on April 19. With the Knights this season, Johnson has started two games and is 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched. The California native has fanned 12 batters in two starts this year. Johnson was a 2015 International League Midseason and Postseason All-Star. He led the IL last year in ERA (2.37) and strikeouts (136). Johnson was originally drafted by the White Sox in the second round of the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft.

The Knights will play the finale of their three-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers) tonight at 6:35 p.m. Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on the flagship station for Charlotte Knights baseball, ESPN 730 AM and charlotteknights.com.
