Late Push by Charlotte Leads Knights over Hens
April 25, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Late Charlotte runs allowed the Knights to take the series finale over the Mud Hens by a score of 4-1 at Fifth Third Field on Monday evening. Those in attendance at Fifth Third Field on Monday were treated to a pitcher's duel throughout the evening, as the game was tied at one until the second of three doubles of the night from 3B Matt Davidson scored two Charlotte runners in the eighth. A bloop single to right field extended their lead to 4-1 over Toledo. That score proved to be all Charlotte needed to outlast the Hens.
RF Steven Moya put Toledo up 1-0 in the second inning when he blasted his fifth long ball of the season over the fence in center field. Moya has notched twelve RBI's this season and is currently batting a .306.
Daniel Norris' first start with Toledo last week did not go as planned, as he allowed five earned runs in four innings pitched. The second start for Norris (6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO) as a Mud Hen went very well, as he tossed six innings while allowing only one run and striking out five Knights batters. Out of his 87 pitches, 52 were recorded as strikes.
The only stress that Norris experienced during the game was in the sixth inning when a double and an error sent Knights SS Tim Anderson to third base with one out. The righty retired the next batter via a grounder to third, but a double from Davidson sent Anderson home, tying the game. Norris struck out the remaining batter.
Pitching in relief for Toledo was RHP Ruben Alaniz, fresh off his call-up from Double-A Erie. Alaniz tossed two innings, allowing three earned runs. Righty Logan Kensing pitched the ninth for the home team.
3B Casey McGehee continues to swing a hot bat this season, as he went 2-4 today. His batting average has now climbed to a .328. C Miguel Gonzelez has been having himself a season so far as well, boasting a BA of .344 with two home runs and five RBI's.
Toledo has also been hot on the base pads in 2016, as Bernard stole his fifth base of the season during the game.
The Hens are back in action tomorrow for their first game of a three game set with the Gwinnett Braves at Fifth Third Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
