Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Bogdan Yakimov recorded the first two-goal game of his AHL career and Iiro Pakarinen tallied two assists and a goal for the Oklahoma City Barons, who downed the Texas Stars 5-2 Saturday night in front of 5,542 in attendance at the Cox Convention Center.

Yakimov's first goal broke a 1-1 tie at 1:32 of the second period when he skated into the Texas zone on a partial break and fired a shot from the left circle that sailed over the glove of Stars goalie Jussi Rynnas.

With the Barons leading 3-2, Yakimov extended Oklahoma City's lead to 4-2 at 13:42 of the third period when he grabbed a short centering pass from Iiro Pakarinen in front of the Stars net and lifted a shot over the shoulder of Rynnas.

Goaltender Richard Bachman stopped 30 shots for the Barons, winning his fifth consecutive decision dating back to Dec. 16.

Derek Meech got Texas out to a 1-0 lead at 9:56 of the first period on the power play with Oklahoma City's Pakarinen serving a boarding penalty assessed at 9:22. Following a shot by Greg Rallo, Meech grabbed a loose puck Bachman was attempting to cover and flipped a shot high into the Barons net.

Andrew Miller evened the score at 11:34 of the first when he raced toward the Stars net and chipped an initially saved shot by Pakarinen past Rynnas.

After Yakimov's first goal gave the Barons a 2-1 lead in the second period, Jason Williams extended the Barons lead when he pushed the rebound of a Kellen Jones shot under Rynnas at 7:01 of the frame.

Texas cut Oklahoma City's lead to 3-2 while shorthanded by a tripping penalty called on reigning AHL MVP Travis Morin at 6:12 of the third period. Derek Hulak took a Justin Dowling pass that created a partial break and beat Bachman at 6:33 of the third.

With the Barons leading 4-2 after Yakimov's second score, Pakarinen added an empty-net goal at 19:39 of the third.

The Barons are back in action Sunday, Jan. 18, when they complete their three-game homestand with a 4 p.m. start against the Rochester Americans at the Cox Convention Center.
