NORFOLK, Va. - Although Norfolk was able to come away with a point in last night's game, they were shut out by Hartford on Saturday evening at Scope Arena, 2-0.
It took over 27 minutes to get the scoring going in this game, but once again it was Hartford who struck first. On a power play, the Wolf Pack set up a cycle at the left circle, with Oscar Lindberg dropping a pass to team points-leader Chris Bourque. The left winger wristed a shot on net which sailed over Norfolk goaltender Jason LaBarbera's blocker and inside the net. Former Admiral Michael Kostka provided the secondary assist at 13:06 of the second period to put Hartford up, 1-0, which lasted into the intermission.
The Wolf Pack extended their lead early in the third period. Tyler Brown began the play in his own zone, skating up the right wall and headmanning the puck to Ryan Haggerty. Haggerty started a give-and-go with Marek Hrivik, who took control of the puck in the high slot and fired one on net. The puck hit the top of the left post and ricocheted past LaBarbera. The tally at 1:47 sent the Admirals into a two-goal deficit.
With LaBarbera pulled for the extra attacker, Hartford capped the game. Chris Mueller snatched the puck out of a scrum at his own blue line and slid it down the ice into the empty net. The tally at 18:46 was unassisted, and the Admirals skated home with a 3-0 loss.
Skapski turned aside all shots, while LaBarbera stopped 24-of-26.
Hartford went 1-for-4 on the power play, but Norfolk was blanked, going 0-for-3 on the man-advantage.
Norfolk returns to action on Wednesday when they host the Charlotte Checkers at 7:15 p.m., followed by a back-to-back against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton next weekend.
Three Stars:
1) HFD #17 Chris Bourque (GWG)
2) HFD #70 Mackenzie Skapski (19 saves)
3) NOR #1 Jason LaBarbera (24 saves)
