Surging Sharks Sweep Homestand with 4-0 Shutout over Penguins

Worcester, MA. - The Worcester Sharks (19-14-3-2, 43pts) stomped the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (20-16-1-3, 44 pts) with a 4-0 shutout win for their sixth consecutive victory in front of 5,132 fans at the DCU Center on Saturday evening.

Four Worcester players scored, including Daniil Tarasov (1-0-1,+1),Taylor Fedun (1-0-1,+1), Freddie Hamiltion (1-0-1,+1) and Bryan Lerg (1-0-1,+1) in the Sharks' offensive onslaught. Troy Grosenick picked up his 15th win, making 25 saves on all 25 shots he saw in the shutout. Sharks now have points in seven consecutive games, as they sweep their five-game homestand after shutting out the Penguins 4-0 in their first meeting of the season.

Worcester surged out to the 3-0 lead in the first period. The scoring began at 12:11 when Daniil Tarasov (10th) displayed some stylish stickhandling after stealing it in the Sharks' attacking zone and netting an off-balance wrist shot to beat W-B/Scranton's goaltender Jeff Zatkoff. At 15:05, Sharks' forward Freddie Hamilton (8th) ripped a high wrist shot from the left circle that found the back of the net. With 28.3 seconds left in the period, Matt Taormina launched a slap shot from in front of the blue line that deflected off several players, and a sprawling Bryan Lerg (6th) scored on the power play for Worcester's third goal of the period. The Sharks outshot the Penguins 8-6, as Troy Grosenick stopped all 6 shots that he saw. Worcester led the game 3-0 through twenty minutes.

With just over five minutes to play in the second period, Worcester tacked on another goal when Taylor Fedun (3rd) fired a shot past the glove of W-B/Scranton's replacement goalie Matt Murray after a solid circle-to-circle feed from forward Evan Trupp. The Sharks were outshot 12-4, but Grosenick stood tall as the Sharks had the 4-0 advantage going into the second intermission.

It was a quiet third period, as Worcester held on for the 4-0 shutout. Grosenick made 25 save on all 25 shots that came his way for his 15th win of the season.

The Sharks overall record improves to 19-14-3-2,

43pts, and 13-6-2-1, 29pts at the DCU Center this season.
