Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Binghamton failed to overcome another quick start by Lehigh Valley and fell 5-1. Martin Ouellette stopped 28 of 29 shots faced to pick up his second victory of the season while Nick Cousins notched three goals and an assist to lead the Phantoms to their third victory of the season over Binghamton.

Cousins notched his first of the night just 14 seconds into the contest when he beat Andrew Hammond for his 11th marker of the year. Zack Stortini tipped home a shot from Brandon Manning on a Phantoms' power play to give Lehigh Valley a 2-0 lead with less than five minutes to play in the first. With Binghamton pressuring the Phantoms zone late in the period, Alex Guptill cut the host's lead to 2-1 when he took a feed from Patrick Mullen and beat Ouellette for his fourth tally of his rookie campaign.

It was Cousins once again striking just 33 seconds into the second period to increase the Phamtoms' lead to 3-1 before Jay Rosehill redirected a shot from Ryan White at 7:13 to give Lehigh Valley a 4-1 lead going into the final intermission break.

Cousins completed the hat trick bid 14:44 into the third when he skated down the right wing side and beat Hammond high to push the final score to 5-1 Phantoms.

White, Derek Mathers, Manning and Andrew Gordon all finished with a pair of assists for Lehigh Valley while Hammond allowed five goals on 37 shots faced to fall to 7-12-2 on the year.

Binghamton completes its busy three-game weekend tomorrow in Springfield when they faceoff against the Falcons at 4:00p.m.
