Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
HOOVER, Ala. - Birmingham Barons starter Sean Tracey pitched into the ninth and won his league-leading 14th game, besting the Suns, 2-1, in front of 3,903 fans Friday at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
Russell Martin and Andy LaRoche led off the ninth with back-to-back singles off Tracey (14-6), but reliever Dwayne Pollok induced two groundouts to end the threat and earn his 11th save.
Nick Alvarez singled in the Suns' lone run in the fifth, scoring James Loney, who led off the inning with a triple. Loney and Todd Donovan each had two hits, including triples. Donovan led off the fourth by tripling to right field, but the Suns failed to score him. ...
Casey Rogowski hit a solo home run off Suns starting pitcher Eric Hull in the fourth inning, giving the Barons a 2-0 lead. Hull (7-7) allowed two runs over six innings, but earned the loss.
Right-hander William Juarez (6-5, 4.39 ERA) is scheduled to start against Birmingham Barons knuckleballing righty Charlie Haeger (6-3, 3.60) at 8 p.m. Saturday as the Suns (79-58 overall, 41-26 second half) face the Barons (79-57, 43-24) in the second game of the final four-game series of the regular season at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
