Knoxville Smokies News Release
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Chris Carter and Stephen Drew came up big in the ninth inning Friday night for a 4-3 Tennessee walk-off win against Montgomery in front of 5,422 fans at Smokies Park in Sevierville.
With the game tied at three in the ninth, the Smokies took advantage of Biscuits' pitcher Brian Henderson (L, 5-1) who walked Carter with one out. After Jamie D'Antona singled, Drew pushed across the game's winning run with a single into shallow center field, allowing Carter to come home.
Once again this season, Casey Daigle entered a game in a no-save situation but still picked up the win. Daigle is now 9-3.
Marland Williams put Tennessee (29-38) on the board first with a two-run home run in the third inning. Williams followed that homer with a second one in the fifth to push Tennessee in front 3-0. Along with a pair of homers, he went 2-for-3 on the night.
The Smokies and the Biscuits play the second game of their four game, season-ending series, Saturday night at Smokies Park. Tennessee Starter Tony Pena (7-12, 4.41) will be opposed by Montgomery's Jim Magrane (2-4, 5.12) in the 7:15 p.m. showdown. Both starters are right-handed. Tickets are still available for schedule poster giveaway night and can be purchased by calling the Smokies at (865) 286-2300.
