Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, TN- For the second straight night the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx suffered a heartbreaking extra inning loss as the Mobile BayBears scored a run in the top of the tenth inning on a balk call and held on to beat the Diamond Jaxx 2-1 in ten innings before a paid crowd of 1263 fans at Pringles Park.

With the game tied at one run each, Jon Searles came on to pitch the tenth inning and gave up a one out triple to Jeff Duncan. Luis Cruz drew a walk to put runners at first and third. Searles (6-3) was then called for a balk by home plate umpire Garrett Watson, scoring Jeff Duncan with the eventual winning run. It appeared that Searles stepped toward third and faked a move to first, a legal non-balk move.

Dale Thayer gave up a leadoff walk in the bottom of the tenth inning, but was able to retire the Diamond Jaxx to notch his Southern League leading 27th save of the season. Thayer saved the game for Ryan Meaux (2-0), who pitched two perfect innings out of the bullpen.

The Diamond Jaxx scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning on a one out RBI double by Casey McGehee. Ryan O'Malley pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings for the Diamond Jaxx, allowing four hits. He walked two and fanned four.

With the loss, the Diamond Jaxx must win the remaining three games of the season ending series with Mobile in order to win the second half Northern Division title. A loss in any of the final three games would give the second half title to Carolina and give the Mudcats home field for game three and if necessary games four and five.

The second game of the series with Mobile takes place on Saturday night at Pringles Park. RHP Ricky Nolasco (13-3 3.01) totes the rubber for the Diamond Jaxx. Mobile will counter with RHP Jack Cassel (3-2 3.65).
