Bandits' Late Rally Thwarted by T-Rats Second-Straight Walk-Off
April 22, 2022 - Midwest League (MWL)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Appleton, Wisconsin - After scoring four-unanswered runs in the final two innings to tie the game, the Quad Cities River Bandits saw their late-game comeback squashed by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers who handed the Bandits their fifth-straight loss in a 6-5 walk-off win at Neuroscience Group Field.
Noah Murdock and TJ Shook both kept the opposition off the board in the first two frames, but it was Wisconsin who drew first blood and rattled off six consecutive baserunners against Murdock to take a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third, including the first of two RBI knocks for Tyler Black.
Shook had the Bandits bats rattled, allowing just one hit until the fifth, when Burle Dixon extended his hitting streak to five games with a solo home run to right field to get the visitors on the board.
While Emilio Marquez held the Timber Rattlers' offense in check during the middle innings, Quad Cities was able to load the bases in both the sixth and seventh innings, but Brady Schanuel and Max Lazar were both able to post zeros out of the bullpen and strand all six Bandits on base.
In the top of the eighth, Q.C. climbed to within one run on Cam Williams' second hit and second home run of the year that cleared the left-center gap with two outs against Lazar.
After Patrick Smith shut down Wisconsin one-two-three for the second-straight inning in the bottom of the eighth, Herard Gonzalez worked a bases loaded walk against Cam Robinson in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5.
However, in the bottom of the ninth, the Rattlers took advantage of Ernesto Martinez Jr.'s leadoff walk and steal of second and two batters later, won the game on Black's line drive to left center field that plated Martinez from second.
Despite blowing the save, Robinson (2-0) got the win for Wisconsin, while Smith (0-1), who gave up one run in 2.1 innings of relief work, took the loss out of the Q.C. bullpen.
Quad Cities will look to snap the skid on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field and send LHP Tyson Guerrero (0-1, 5.87) to face the Timber Rattlers' LHP Antoine Kelly (0-0. 4.15). First pitch at Neuroscience Group Field is scheduled for 6:40pm.
