Baby Cakes' Diaz, Harrison to Play in Futures Game
July 3, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Metairie, LA - New Orleans Baby Cakes second baseman Isan Diaz and outfielder Monté Harrison will play in the SiriusXM Futures Game at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Sunday, July 7.
The Futures Game highlights top prospects from each of the 30 MLB organizations, showcasing them in a seveninning game played the day before the MLB All-Star Game.
Diaz, in his first full season at Triple-A, is hitting .296 with 20 home runs this season, pacing New Orleans in hits (85), doubles (17) and RBI (54) while leading the Pacific Coast League in runs scored (68). Harrison is one off the PCL lead in stolen bases, despite playing in only eight games in June due to injury. In 2018, Harrison finished one home run shy of a 20/20 campaign, achieved by only six minor leaguers last season. As ranked by MLB Pipeline, Diaz is the Miami Marlins' No. 6 prospect, and Harrison is No. 2, and No. 85 in all of baseball.
The duo become the fourth and fifth players to represent the New Orleans franchise at the Futures Game, joining Logan Morrison in 2010, Chris Burke in 2004 and Lance Berkman in 1999.
They will be joined by Marlins' No. 1 prospect, right-handed pitcher Sixto Sanchez, on the National League roster for the Futures Game. Sanchez is currently pitching for Double-A Jacksonville.
Both Diaz and Harrison were acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers on January 25, 2018, in which Miami also received outfielder Lewis Brinson and right-handed pitcher Jordan Yamamoto in exchange for outfielder Christian Yelich.
The Baby Cakes return home for the annual Independence Day celebration on Thursday, July 4 at 7 p.m. against the San Antonio Missions. The first 1,000 fans will receive a T-shirt courtesy of Servicemaster, and the largest fireworks display of the season will follow the game.
