Amerks In San Antonio Tonight

December 9, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... Tonight, the Rochester Americans kickoff a five-game in six-night stretch as they take on the San Antonio Rampage at the AT&T Center. The 8:00 p.m. EST contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.

The game will be the first of only two scheduled meetings between the two teams this season, and the only visit for the Amerks to San Antonio. The Amerks were 1-1-0-0 last season against the Rampage, but own an 8-4-0 record all-time against the Phoenix Coyotes affiliate.

The Amerks (4-18-0-2, 10 points) enter the contest coming off a 4-0 win over the Albany River Rats Sunday night at The Blue Cross Arena. Newly acquired goaltender Mike Brodeur, in his first game as an Amerk after signing a professional tryout with the team on Friday, turned away all 28 shots to power the Amerks to their fourth win of the season, snapping the team's current three-game skid. The shutout was the first of his AHL career and the first for any Rochester goaltender this season. Janis Sprukts, in his first game back with the Amerks since being recalled by the Florida Panthers, led the way offensively with a two-goal performance and forwards Stefan Meyer and Tanner Glass each contributed a goal and assist as well.

First-year forward Michal Repik, coming off a four-game point streak, currently paces Rochester's offense with a team-high 14 points, while his six goals ties him with Meyer and Sprukts for the team lead. His 14 points ranks him 19th among AHL rookies. Rookie defenseman Jason Garrison has a team best nine assists and remains Rochester's top scoring defenseman with 11 points overall, good enough for third on the team. Michael Duco is first on the team and 12th in the league with 83 penalty minutes (PIM). Sprukts' two shorthanded goals ties him for second best in the league.

Repik and Glass made their first appearance of the season with the Florida Panthers last night after being recalled early Monday morning. Repik wasted no time in his National Hockey League debut, seeing 7:27 of ice and scoring his first NHL goal to help the Panthers to 4-3 overtime win over the Ottawa Senators at ScotiaBank Place.

The Rampage come into the game currently riding a three-game winning streak after defeating the Syracuse Crunch and sweeping the Manitoba Moose as part of a two-game set. Despite their recent success, San Antonio remains at the bottom of the West Division with a 5-20-0-1 record and just 11 points.

San Antonio's Joakim Lindstrom, who was recently acquired by the Phoenix Coyotes in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks, leads the team offensively with a team-high 23 points and 15 assists, while his eight goals ties him for first. Since joining the Rampage from the Iowa Chops, Lindstrom has one goal and one assist in three games with San Antonio. Goaltender Josh Tordjman, the reigning Reebok/AHL Player of the Week, has spent the majority of time between the pipes for the Rampage, showing a 4-10-1 record with 2.93 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage in 16 games. His two shutouts, which he posted in a three-game stint this past week, also ranks him tied for third among AHL netminders. Francis Lessard and Adam Keefe rank first and second on the team and in the league with 132 and 108 PIM, respectively.

Rochester remains in the Lone Star State the following night as it visits the Toyota Center to clash with the Houston Aeros in a non-divisional matchup. The 8:05 p.m. EST contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. Houston is currently 11-10-1-2 on the season and sits in sixth place in the West Division with 25 points.
