Americans to Wrap up Three-In-Three Weekend in Vancouver
February 5, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Tri-City Americans News Release
Americans @ Giants
Sunday, February 5 | Langley, B.C. | Langley Events Centre
Start Time: 4:00 PM
The Americans and Giants will meet tonight for the third time in their four-game season series.
They most recently played in Langley when the Ams took a 7-3 victory over the Giants on 1/15. Tri-City had 7 different goal scorers that night, and was led by Jalen Luypen with a goal and two assists. The away team has won both prior games in Tri-City and Vancouver's season series - the Giants are one of Tri-City's five losses at home this season. Jalen Luypen leads series scoring with two goals and two assists against the Giants. Vancouver's Ty Halaburda is the only other player to have two goals in the series.
The Americans fell to the Winterhawks 4-1 last night in Portland. It was Tri-City's first regulation loss since December 30 in Spokane and ended a 10-0-3-0 point streak. Tri-City's lone goal was scored by Adam Mechura, unassisted and shorthanded. Mechura is on a five-game point streak with three goals and five assists over that period. Since returning from World Juniors, the Czechia native has played ten games, contributing five goals and 11 assists over that period, and has only been held pointless once. Nick Avakyan played in net and stopped 39 of 43 shots faced. Portland shut down Tri-City's top power play as the Ams went 0/3 with a man advantage. It was the first time Tri-City hasn't scored on the power play in six games.
Tri-City will look to start a new win streak after falling last night, while the Giants are also looking to get back in the win column after losing four straight.
