Raiders Shut Out By Rockets 4-0 To End Bc Road Trip
February 5, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release
The Prince Albert Raiders piled on a season high 51 shots on goal on Saturday night, but Talyn Boyko stopped every single one of them in net for Kelowna, as the Rockets shutout the green and gold by a 4-0 final.
Despite leading 17-10 in shots after the opening 20 minutes, the Raiders found themselves trailing 2-0 on the scoreboard after the first period. Marcus Pacheco opened the scoring 4:48 into the game, letting a laser shot go from the high slot. The shot went bar down past Max Hildebrand, and Pacheco's eighth goal of the season gave Kelowna the early 1-0 lead.
Just over 10 minutes later, the Rockets doubled their lead on a powerplay. After Hildebrand made a couple of consecutive big saves, Kelowna kept the pressure on in the offensive zone. Carson Golder cashed in on a chance, burying his 21st goal of the season to put the Rockets up 2-0, which is how the score would read heading into the second period. No goals were scored in the middle frame, as the Rockets held onto their 2-0 lead heading into the third.
In the final regulation frame, the Raiders outshot the Rockets 21-3. However, Kelowna scored on their first shot of the third period. Elias Carmichael scored his first of two third period goals at the 6:17 mark to give the Rockets a 3-0 lead.
Prince Albert had three powerplays in the third period, including two towards the end of the game with the net empty. Boyko stood tall in goal for the Rockets, stopping all 21 third period shots. Carmichael scored his second goal of the contest with 11 seconds left into an empty net to give Kelowna a 4-0 lead.
4-0 would be how the game ended, as the Raiders finished their BC road trip with a 3-2-0-0 record, falling to 19-27-3-0 on the season.
Prince Albert is back in action on Friday night in Swift Current. Their next home game is on Saturday night for the second half of a home and home set with the Broncos.
