Allen Americans News Release
BOSSIER CITY, La- The Allen Americans defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 3-2 Friday at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, La. With the victory, the Americans move to 8-2 on the season. Their 16 points places them alone in first place in the Berry Conference.
In the first period, the Americans outshot the Mudbugs 12-7, but found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 score, as Brett Smith was credited with a goal 8:44 into the period. Smith benefitted from a mix-up in the Americans zone, which resulted in the puck going off of an Allen skate and into the net for the only goal of the period.
The second period started off with a bang for Allen, as David Nimmo ripped a one-timer past Mudbug goaltender Brian Foster for his second of the season, just 37 seconds into the period. After the Nimmo goal, both teams failed to get on the scoreboard for the remainder of the period, leaving the game locked at one heading into the third frame. Both teams registered 10 shots in the second period.
Americans goaltender Adrien Lemay continued his strong play into the third period of play coming up with several key saves early in the period to keep the game tied. When the Americans received a 5-on-3 advantage seven minutes into the period, they cashed in to give themselves a 2-1 lead. Justin DaCosta walked to the center of the ice, and wristed home a shot off the glove of Foster for the goal.
Just after the second penalty of the 5-on-3 had expired, Jeff Martens pounced on a loose puck, skated in and deposited a backhander behind Lemay to tie the score up at 2.
When the game looked like it may have been destined for overtime mid-way through the period, Nimmo pocketed his second of the game on a slick pass from Jarret Lukin out of the corner.
Adrien Lemay stood tall for the remainder of the third, maintaining the one-goal advantage for his club by making five saves on six shots in the period for the 3-2 victory.
Next up for the Americans, is a swing through Laredo to play the Bucks on Friday, November 12th.
