
Thunder Win Streak Hits Five

Wichita Thunder News Release
The Wichita Thunder went 2-0-0 last weekend beginning with a 4-2 win versus Arizona on Friday. A three-goal third period helped the Thunder take control of the game, highlighted by goals from Kory Scoran, Lance Galbraith, and Chris Falloon. A.J. Gale gave Wichita an early 1-0 lead in the first. Marc-Antoine Gelinas improved to 2-0-0 with the Thunder, saving 25 of 27. Arizona's Doug Groenestege took the loss who came into Friday with a 12-0-0 lifetime record against the Thunder. The win marked the Thunder's first four-game winning streak since the end of the 2005-06 season.
The Thunder made it five straight wins on Saturday, winning a dramatic 4-3 contest in overtime at Missouri. Jesse Bennefield tied the game at 3-3 with 16.3 seconds left in regulation, while Andrew Martens knocked in the game-winner as time expired in the bonus frame. Martens and Bennefield each had three points. Marty Magers was 23 of 26 in the win. It was the Thunder's first win against the Mavericks who entered Saturday 11-0-0 all-time against Wichita.
Offense Ranking High
The Thunder is fifth in the CHL in goals for per game at 3.56.
Team Defense
The Thunder continues to lead the CHL in fewest shots against per game at 26.67. Wichtia is also fourth in the league in fewest goals against per game at 2.78.
Dynamic Duo
The Thunder has received strong goaltending from its current pair of Marty Magers and Marc-Antoine Gelinas who are a combined 5-1-0 in a Wichita sweater. Gelinas is fourth in the league with a 2.01 goals against average while Magers is eighth at 2.48. Both tenders have save percentages well over .900.
Rookie Pacing League
Rookie defenseman Steven Kaunisto leads the league in plus/minus at +11. Kaunisto and Chris Moran are also tied for fourth among rookies with six points.
Bennefield Dominating
Right wing Jesse Bennefield ranks tied for fifth in the league in both goals (6) and points (13). Bennefield also leads the league with 50 total shots on goal.
Heavyweight Goulet
Defenseman Jason Goulet ranks second in the league with six fighting majors.
Thunder Streaks
Jesse Bennefield is riding a six-game point streak with a total of 11 points (5 G, 6 A). Troy Schwab has collected a point in five straight games. Young stars Chris Moran and A.J. Gale had five-game point streaks snapped on Saturday at Missouri.
