Bucks Re-Sign Two-Time All Star Smith

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Monday that they have re-signed two-time CHL All Star and 2008-09 CHL Rookie of the Year Darryl Smith for the 2010-11 season. Smith is expected to be in the lineup Tuesday when the Bucks host Bossier-Shreveport.

The Bucks also announced on Monday that they have activated Mark O'Leary from the 10-day IR and placed Reid Edmondson on the 10-day IR.

The 23-year-old Smith returns for his third season in Laredo after being released by Wheeling (ECHL) on Saturday (Nov. 6th). Smith picked up six points (0-66) for Wheeling before being released.

"Darryl Smith was a big part of our team the last two seasons and we are thrilled to bring him back again this season," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "He scored a lot of big goals for us and we expect him to pick up right where he left off."

In 121 regular season games with the Bucks Smith put up 141 points (71-70141) including 18 game-winning goals with a plus-20 rating. Of Smith's 141 points with the Bucks 59 came on special teams (22 power-play goals, 31 power-play assists, five shorthanded goals, one shorthanded assist).

Smith put up 35 or more goals in each of his first two seasons in Laredo while his nine game-winning goals in each of his two seasons are a Bucks single season franchise record.

Last season Smith had 71 points (35-3671) including nine game-winning goals with a plus-two rating earning his second CHL All-Star selection.

The 5'11'', 190 pound Smith had 21 multi-point games including eight multi-goal games last season and was named player of the week on January 23rd.

Smith had four points (2-24) in the Bucks seven game playoff loss to Allen last season.

The Thorold, Ontario native played in one game for the AHL's Manitoba Moose last season.

Smith had a banner year for the Bucks in 2008-09. In addition to being named Rookie of the Year, Smith was the All-Star Game MVP, All-Rookie team, and Team MVP. Smith put up 70 points (36-3470) in the regular season, to go along with eight points 5-38) in five playoff games. Smith led all CHL rookies in scoring, while his 36 goals were second-most in the entire league.

Smith was called up to the AHL's Houston Aeros that season, the team he attended training camp with. Smith played four games with the Aeros.

Smith was named CHL Player of the Week on December 8th that season.

O'LEARY ACTIVATED, EDMONDSON PLACED ON IR

O'Leary has been on the 10-day IR since October 14th and will make his season debut Tuesday against the Mudbugs. O'Leary suffered a season-ending injury on January 29th last season.

Edmondson has been placed on the 10-day IR with an upper-body injury retroactive to November 6th. Edmondson has two points (0-22) in eight games this season.
