Komets Hit the Road for Three this Week

Fort Wayne, IN | Monday, Nov. 8, 2010 --- The Komets get back on the road for three games in three nights for week five of the 2010-11 CHL campaign. The Komets enter the week with a 2-3-1 record for five points after the first six games of the season and have a chance to gain ground on Turner Conference rivals in all three games scheduled for the week ahead.

Thursday at Dayton.....The Komets will get this week's road tour started at Dayton (4-2-1) Thursday at 7pm. It's the first of seven trips to Hara Arena (5,543) where the Komets were 8-1-0 last year and completed the season with seven straight wins at Dayton. The Komets finished 2009-10 riding an eight-game win string vs. Dayton and haven't lost to the Gems since a 2-1 clipping in Fort Wayne Feb. 3. The Komets are 79-84-12 all-time against the Gems. First ever game vs Dayton: Nov. 14, 1964, at Fort Wayne 8 Dayton 4; First ever Komet game at Hara Arena: Nov. 22, 1964, Fort Wayne 9, Dayton 1.

Friday at Evansville...Friday the Komets make their debut in Evansville (3-4-1) at 8:35pm Fort Wayne time. It will be the first of four meetings at Swonder Ice Arena (1,600) this year. The Komets gained a 1-0 start in meetings with the IceMen Saturday in Fort Wayne with a 4-3 win. The IceMen will host Arizona Thursday before welcoming the Komets Friday.

Saturday at Misssouri.....Saturday the Komets finish week five debuting in Independence, Missouri, at the Independence Event Center (5,800) and face the Mavericks at 8:05 pm Fort Wayne time. It's the first of three meetings this season, and the first of two at Missouri. The Komets trail Turner Conference rival Missouri (3-3-2) by three points. The Mavericks travel to Quad City Thursday and Wichita Friday before returning home to face the Komets Saturday.

About last week The Komets split a weekend home double-header for a two-point week. Friday night the Komets suffered their second straight home shutout 4-0 to the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder. Saturday the Komets earned their first home win of the season 4-3 over Evansville, directing the most shots on goal (41) in a game this year, and the most power play goals in a game (3).

More firsts.....Derek Patrosso (RW), Brandon Naurato (LW) and P.C. Drouin (LW) each scored their first goals of the season in Saturday's 4-3 win over the visiting PrairieThunder..Patrosso registered his first two-goal game, and first game-winning goal of the season, Saturday for First Star of the Game..Chris Francis (C), on assignment to Fort Wayne from Columbus NHL, contributed to Fort Wayne's home win Saturday night with his first Komet assist....goaltender Kevin Reiter made his first Fort Wayne home appearance of the season Friday night..netminder Nick Boucher registered his first home win of the season Saturday.

Fan-Tastic.....The Komets attracted 16,418 fans for the two home games played in week five and lead all minor league pro hockey in attendance with a per-game average of 8,966 after three home games.

O'Connor dishes #100.....Sean O'Connor (RW) reached his 100th Fort Wayne career point passing two assists in the Komet's 4-3 win Saturday over Evansville.

Popular Power Play......seven of nine Fort Wayne goals scored in the first six games of the season have been power play goals. Both teams combined, 27 goals have been scored in Fort Wayne's first six games and 17 of the 27 goals have been scored on the power play.

The last time.....The last time the Komets were held scoreless two home games in a row was during the 2006-07 UHL campaign when Port Huron blanked Fort Wayne on two consecutive visits Feb 23 and Mar 3, 2007. The last time the Komets took three home games to win in front of the Fort Wayne home crowd was in 2003, on the heals of a Colonial Cup Championship, when they were 1-1-1 at home after a 4-3 shootout loss to Kalamazoo for the home opener, a 3-2 loss to Quad City, and a 7-4 win over Missouri in the third home game of the season.

Friday night Marathon Nights.....Friday nights are Marathon Nights at Komet home games. Fans can take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer with three fill-ups when the Komets host the Arizona Sundogs Friday, Nov. 19 at 8pm. Fill Up Cards are available at participating Marathon stations.
