Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (5-2-2) return to the road for the first time in November as they look to build off their current three game winning streak. The Bees completed a sweep of the Odessa Jackalopes at State Farm Arena with a 5-4 shootout victory on Friday and 4-1 win on Saturday night.
The Friday victory was highlighted by the marathon 16-round shootout it took to find a winner. Brett Wilson scored the winning goal with a 360-degree spin on the top of the crease. On Saturday night the Bees played a complete game with goals from Tomas Klempa, Greg Holt, Aaron Lee and Aaron Lewicki.
This road trip has the Bees facing three familiar foes and play in two buildings the Bees have traveled to already. The Bees faced the Mudbugs in Bossier City, La. on Oct. 28 falling in a shootout. The Bees first regulation defeat of the season came to the hands of the Texas Brahmas at the NYTEX Sports Centre on Oct. 22. While the Bees have played Odessa twice, Nov. 16 is the Bees first trip to the Ector County Coliseum this season.
BEES NEED TO KNOW
. Aaron Lee continues to climb the all-time Killer Bees record lists. Currently Lee is two points from tying Trevor Weisgerber for eighth most points all-time by a Bee (91 points). Lee needs four goals to tie Grant Goeckner-Zoeller for sixth in goals scored, 48.
. Zak McClellan, who was named captain at the start of the season, is one shorthanded goal from tying the all-time Killer Bees record of eight.
. Third time's the charm for the Killer Bees when it comes to shootouts. After falling in their first two shootouts the Bees prevailed over Odessa on Nov. 5.
. The Killer Bees hold a five points to three advantage over the Laredo Bucks in the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup, which will be awarded to the team with the most points against.
. The Killer Bees are five victories away from the franchise's 200th victory all-time, the Bees currently stand at 194 franchise wins.
. Kyle Radke, a rock solid defensemen, has scored two goals this season. The last time Radke lit the lamp twice in one season? 2006-07 when he was with the University of North Dakota, he only scored twice that year.
