Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans helped celebrate Military Appreciation Night tonight with a 4-2 win against the Texas Brahmas.
The Brahmas started off the scoring with a goal early in the first from Chad Woollard. A recipient of an outstanding breakout feed, Woolard skated in all alone, and ripped a wrister over the glove of goaltender Chris Whitley to give the Brahmas a 1-0 lead.
Sporting special camouflage jerseys, Allen drew even just over 8 minutes in to the first, with a goal from Captain Jarret Lukin.
Bruce Graham put the Americans on top 2-1 late in the period, when he scored on a snapper from an impossible angle. With Brahmas goaltender Wayne Savage out of position after the initial shot, Graham took the rebound, looked off the defenders, and deposited the puck high over Savage's glove. On the Graham goal, Nino Musitelli registered an assist, running his point streak to 8 games. Musitelli has now registered at least one point in all but one game this season.
The second period saw no scoring from either side, but was not without scoring chances for both clubs. Whitley, who was rock solid for the Americans, was forced to make several quality saves to keep the score at 2-1, while at the opposite end, Savage kept up his end of the bargain, making several key saves of his own.
In the third period, Lukin got his second of the game on a nifty tip-in of a Greg Gallagher shot to make it 3-1 Americans. Lukin's goal was followed closely by a goal from Musitelli 6:35 into the period to make it 4-2 in favor of Allen.
Tyler Allen scored for the Brahmas from the slot late in the game to bring Texas to within two, which would prove to be where the game would end.
The jerseys worn by the Americans during the game were auctioned off immediately following the contest, with the proceeds benefitting the TX Army National Guard Family Support Foundation.
With the victory, Allen moves to 7-2-0 on the season, tied in points with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs for the first spot in the Berry Conference. Allen will now head to Bossier City to take on the âBugs Saturday night, with face off scheduled for 7:30 PM.
