Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings won their second straight game while Tulsa saw a winless streak increase to eight (0-7-1) in a 4-1 Mississippi victory over the Oilers on Saturday, November 6th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.

Now 4-4-0 for the year, Mississippi hosts Evansville Tuesday night in the final game of the current four-game homestand before heading to Rapid City and Colorado this coming weekend. Tulsa fell to 2-7-1 have not won since the second game of the season.

Two power play goals sparked the early offense for Mississippi, first by Russell Smith, whose drive from the right side resulted in his second goal of the year with eight minutes left in the first period. Chris Richards added to the lead with his third goal of the year, all on the power play, in a scramble in front of the Tulsa net at 3:27 left in the initial period for a 2-0 first intermission lead.

Tulsa would get one back in the second period on Michel Beausoleil's third goal of the year with 1:31 remaining in the middle session.

But, the RiverKings put it away in the third period with a pair of goals. Matt Miller scored with just over five minutes left in the game for a 3-1 lead, and Darrell Stoddard added more insurance with his second tally of the season with 3:39 left on the clock for the final 4-1 score.

Mississippi edged the Oilers on the shot clock 36-35 and was 2-for-5 on the power play, while Tulsa failed to score in seven extra-man chances. The RiverKings were tagged for 33 minutes in the "sin bin," while Tulsa claimed 29 minutes in penalty time.

Larry Sterling (3-2-0) won his third straight start in goal for Mississippi, stopping 34 of 35 shots, while his counterpart, Ian Keserich (0-4-0), made 32 saves in his first Tulsa start since being acquired late in the week.

With the win, Mississippi moves into fifth place in the CHL Berry Conference, while Tulsa finds itself one point out of the conference basement.
