Mallards, Russo Down Bloomington 3-1
November 6, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - Adam Russo made 47 saves in his Quad City Mallard debut and Darren McMillan scored what proved to be the game winning goal at 7:09 of the third period as the host Mallards defeated the Bloomington PrairieThunder 3-1 Saturday night.
Russo stopped 20 shots in the second period alone, setting the stage for McMillan to snap a 1-1 tie in the third with a long range drive that was deflected past PrairieThunder goaltender Brad Phillips. Tyler Shelast finished off the win for the Mallards in the final minute of the third when he caught Phillips trying to make it to the Bloomington bench and buried the puck in the gaping net as the PrairieThunder attempted to throw on an extra attacker.
The Mallards first jumped in front when Eric Giosa tipped in a power play goal with just one minute and three seconds left in the first period period.
The PrairieThunder's second period onslaught produced a power play equalizer from John Snowden- who roofed the puck at the 10:44 mark- but no more, as Russo shut the door on Bloomington the rest of the way.
The Mallards return to action next Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m. against the Missouri Mavericks on home ice and then take on the Arizona Sundogs next Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at the i wireless Center. Next Thursday is "Thirsty Thursday"- fans will be able to purchase $2 drafts and soft drinks from i wireless Center concessions stands during the Mallards' meeting with the Mavericks. Next Saturday brings the Mallards' Teddy Bear Toss presented by B100 and CBS 4. Fans are encouraged to bring new unwrapped teddy bears to next Saturday's game and toss them onto the ice after the Mallards' first goal. The bears will then be collected and donated to the Festival of Trees.
Tickets for next week's games- and all Mallards regular season home games- are available in person at the i wireless Center box office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
