Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - It was an action packed night at the NYTEX Sports Centre filled with 178 penalty minutes, four goals and a Texas shutout by Kevin Beech in the Brahmas 4-0 victory Saturday night.
If there was any inclination as to how the game tempo would go, it was set at the 4:38 mark in the opening period when Brahmas defenseman Steven Later threw a glass shattering hit along the boards causing a 15 minute delay in the game. The chippy period followed suit with seven penalties being called after the eventful incident, but it was the episode with just over a minute remaining that brought the fans to their feet when Chad Woollard sent a bullet past Levente Szuper in net for his fourth goal of the season and second in as many nights.
The second went without a break in play until midway in the period when Greg Hogeboom registered his team leading fifth goal of the season with a pass from linemates Jason Deitsch and Woollard. A pick from Mick Lawrence at center ice set up Texas' third goal when he and Dan Riedel caused confusion for the Sundogs blueliners, giving Riedel his second of the year and the Texas 3-0 lead.
But it was just the calm before the storm as an eruption of fights occurred with under two minutes left in the middle frame at and in the Brahmas player's bench. Consequently, six game misconducts were handed, three aside (Texas: Deitsch, Todd Griffith and Ross Rouleau; Arizona: Joey Sides, Keith Cam and Tyler Butler).
Fire continued to burn between the teams in the third as did the Brahmas offense when Greg Hogeboom registered his second goal of the game with four on four play. Overshadowed by the physical play was the outstanding play of Beech who earned his first shutout in net for Texas stopping 26 Arizona shots.
The Brahmas host a two game homestand next weekend beginning with a contest against the Odessa Jackalopes Friday evening on $1 Hot Dog Night. All fans in attendance Friday will receive $1 hot dogs offered at the concession stands. On Saturday, Texas will take on the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the NYTEX Sports Centre; both games are slotted for 7:30 PM faceoffs.
