Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs suffered their second consecutive loss and third of the season against the Allen Americans Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center, falling by a 3-2 final score. Allen moved into sole possession of first place in the CHL with the win, which dropped Bossier-Shreveport to 7-4 on the season.
Brett Smith and Jeff Martens scored for the Mudbugs, who are now 1-3 against the Americans this year. David Nimmo scored two goals for the visitors, including the game-winner that broke a 2-2 tie in the third period.
The Mudbugs opened the scoring at 8:44 of the first frame when Dave Pszenyczny's initial shot was stopped but Brett Smith crashed the net and poked in the rebound to make it 1-0 âBugs after one period. Allen tied the game in the first minute of the second period on Nimmo's one-timed blast from the point, which found the top corner on Brian Foster's blocker side.
The Americans took their first lead during a 5-on-3 powerplay chance as Justin DaCosta scored at 7:18 of the third period to give Allen a 2-1 advantage. Jeff Martens quickly answered for the Mudbugs, backhanding a shot over Adrien LeMay's glove on a mini-breakaway just over a minute later to tie the score once again. Allen went ahead to stay at 10:15 when Jarret Lukin sent a back-door pass to Nimmo, who tapped in the go-ahead goal to give the Americans a 3-2 victory.
Brian Foster made 26 saves in goal but fell to 3-1 after his first professional defeat. Adrien LeMay stopped 21 shots in the win for Allen, who outshot Bossier-Shreveport 29-23. The Mudbugs went scoreless on three powerplays, while the Americans converted 1 of 5.
The âBugs will next head to South Texas for their first matchup of the season with the Laredo Bucks on Tuesday night. Opening faceoff is set for 7:00 pm with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 on 1130 KWKH. The game will also be shown live on CHL-TV.
