November 8, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rapid City Rush News Release

(Amarillo, TX) - The Rapid City Rush were dealt a 6-3 loss by the Amarillo Gorillas as the Rush now fall back to .500 on the season (2-2-4). The game marked the return of former Amarillo Head Coach and current Rapid City Head Coach Joe Ferras, as well as former Gorillas and current Rush players Mark DeSantis, Chris Lipsett and Rich Hansen.

Amarillo wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as Sam Ftorek blasted a slapshot past Rush netminder Miguel Beaudry just 1:08 into the game. Gordon Bell was able to win a faceoff back to Ftorek who one-timed the shot from the top of the left faceoff circle for the lone goal of the first frame.

The scoring opened up in the second period as there were a total of five goals scored between the two squads. Chris DiUbaldo knotted the score up when he beat Gorillas goaltender Mike Gorman for the equalizer at the 4:03 mark of the second. Picking up the assists on the play were R.G. Flath and Derek LeBlanc. One minute and forty seconds later, the Rush gave up their first shorthanded goal of the season when Jason Weitzel converted on a 2-1 chance to give the Gorillas the lead once again. Amarillo then extended their lead to three goals as Austin Sutter scored from Jake Morisette and Neil Smith and later Weitzel added his second from Jonathan Ornelas. Rapid City would begin to chip away at the lead late in the second with DiUbaldo picking up his second of the game with just thirty seconds left in the second period as the assist came from John Neal.

In the third period, it looked as though Rapid City would be able to climb all the way back when Derek LeBlanc scored his first of the season to make it a one-goal game 9:25 into the final 20 minutes. R.G. Flath and LesReaney added the helpers on the powerplay goal. However, Weitzel wanted to stop any chance of a comeback and the he did so by earning a hat-trick, scoring his third goal of the game. Later, Luke Lynes sealed the game with a breakaway goal at the14:49 mark of the third with Sutter and Stuart MacRae getting the helpers.

Final shots were 31-22 in favor of Amarillo and both teams went 1-for-8 on the powerplay. Rush goaltender Miguel Beaudry made 25 saves for Rapid City and Gorman made 19 saves in the win. For Gorman, this was his first game in between the pipes for Amarillo. Up next, the Rush take on division rival Colorado on Saturday night at 7:05pm.
